As a person who has been diagnosed with multiple mental health disorders and has been going through the system for years, I am finally able to see a clearer picture of why mine and others lives have fallen apart with little to no resolution. Everything in this part of the book makes sense and it’s easy to see that Professor Van Der Kolk is the type of person who is very dedicated to studying, understanding, and helping those who suffer from trauma disorders. I can honestly say this book may be the propeller to start my journey to help those who suffer as well because I can use my trauma experience to educate people. Kolk stated that a researcher who goes by the name of Beatrice Beebe told him that “most research is me-search” (111) which means that I am most likely going to be drawn to a career that I can resonate the most with such as mental health.

The biggest problem in the world of mental health has been how we look at and how we help people suffering from trauma and other mental disorders. One of the reasons we have had such a hard time trying to heal people with trauma disorders is because of our perceptions of them. Many people with trauma and mental illness are being misunderstood because of the labels being given out by doctors.
